I cannot explain why seeing snow makes me feel thankful. Perhaps I never saw snow when I was a kid. Perhaps it makes me want to give warmth to all those who are cold. Perhaps its a miraculous sight for me. Perhaps it reminds me that there is a lot of beauty in this world.
As the snow flakes fall to the ground, I am reminded of how short life can be and how important it is to enjoy the beauty of the world and the company of the people around you. The world is a miraculous place and there are a lot of things that we can thankful for.
I stood at the bus station watching every snow flake flow gently to the floor, some landing on my black scarf. The reflection of the street light made the flakes even more beautiful. This is when I am reminded of a song as well, Josh Groban’s Thankful.
Here’s “Thankful” for you on a beautiful snowy Friday night. (lyrics below)
Thankful by Josh Groban
Somedays we forget
To look around us
Somedays we can’t see
The joy that surrounds us
So caught up inside ourselves
We take when we should give.
So for tonight we pray for
What we know can be.
And on this day we hope for
What we still can’t see.
It’s up to us to be the change
And even though we all can still do more
There’s so much to be thankful for.
Look beyond ourselves
There’s so much sorrow
It’s way too late to say
I’ll cry tomorrow
Each of us must find our truth
It’s so long overdue
So for tonight we pray for
What we know can be
And every day we hope for
What we still can’t see
It’s up to us to be the change
And even though we all can still do more
There’s so much to be thankful for.
Even with our differences
There is a place we’re all connected
Each of us can find each other’s light
So for tonight we pray for
What we know can be
And on this day we hope for
What we still can’t see
It’s up to us to be the change
And even though this world needs so much more
There’s so much to be thankful for
